World Cup Squad

The England squad for the World cup has been announced today.

Goalies - Hart, Foster, Forster
Defenders - Baines, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Shaw, Jones, Smalling
Midfielders - Gerrard, Lampard, Lallana, Sterling, Barkley, Wilshere, Henderson, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain
Forwards - Rooney , Sturridge, Welbeck, Lambert

On Standby - Ruddy, Flanagan, Stones, Carrick, Cleverley, Carroll, Defoe

Mostly predictable with Ashley Cole being the best known to miss out, Michael Carrick is slightly unlucky as Roy is going with the injury prone Arsenal pair of Wilshere and Chamberlain. Both are great players if they can stay fit but there must be a worry.
Defence is a bit of a concern with Jones and Smalling not showing any form and Johnson having been taken apart by the Germans 4 years ago and now worse. Flanagan and Stones were surely better options to have in the squad?
Good to see Barkley, Sterling and Lambert in but did think Frank Lampard might have got the call last night telling him to book a summer holiday instead.

  3. Very silly not taking A Cole. Still our best left back. I would of played both Cole and Baines (left midfield) Andy Carroll should of got the nod too. Welbeck? Are you sure? Good to see Sterling,Barkley and Southampton midfielder in there tho. Lamps and Gerrard I would of left at home to be honest.

  4. Got to agree Longy, Ashley's done nothing wrong and Baines hasn't really impressed this season.
If it was just a choice between Carroll and Lambert I would have to go for Lambert, but maybe Carroll could have gone as well instead of one of the midfielders. Still undecided about Wellbeck? league form means he should be nowhere near the team but he has had some decent performances for England.
Lampard and Gerrard is the old argument, don't mind either as long as they don't play together.

  5. I think Lambert has only gone for the penalty shoot out (IF we are lucky enough to get through the group!)

    It's England innit lol

    Here's my prediction for England

    They beat Italy

    They lose to Uruquay

    They lose to Costa Rica

    They go home

ps Brazil go on to win it...
