World Cup 2022 Predictions (Part 1)

World Cup time again, so here is the World Cup predictions competition.

 ⚽  🏆  ⚽  🏆  ⚽  🏆  ⚽  🏆  ⚽  🏆

Personal feeling I've never looked forward to a World Cup less, stupid time of the year.
In a country with no football tradition, sterile stadiums with only well off "well behaved fans".
England in a poor run of form, so at least we should hear less of every muppet saying "it's coming home"

Usual predictions rules - 3 Points for a correct score, 1 Point for a correct result.
Overall winner will be decided on the total points at the end of the competition (64 Games).

Extra rules for the knockout stages:
To stop all confusion and arguments the prediction will be the score at the end of normal time (90 minutes + injury time).
Extra time and Penalties will not count.
So if a game finishes 0-0 and goes into extra time and one team has 3 players sent off and lose 7-0 it will count as a 0-0 draw, Hopefully that makes sense 😁

All welcome to join in, plenty of time to catch up if you miss a few games.

Here's a list of the first round of games in the 2022 tournament.
Will post the rest in stages a few days before they are played.

These first round games are being played between Sunday 20th November to Saturday 26th November
Kicks off at 4pm on Sunday with a game between the 44th and 50th ranked teams in the world .. sigh!!

  2. Welcome Paulo and Gibbo and Paul.

First game done, easy win for Ecuador.
2 goals for former Hammer Enner Valencia, but haven't seen any valid evidence why the early goal was ruled out? hoping the rest of the tournament isn't ruined by dubious VAR.

    Day 1 Scores (1 game)
    Gibbo 1, Lee, 1, Paul 0, Paulo -, (Chris Sutton 1)

  3. Great win for England, everyone performed from the start.
Hoped for, but didn't think it would happen.
Wondered if it was going to be one of those days after Maguire hit the post and had a blatant penalty turned down? but Saka was superb and some great goals scored.
VAR is really worrying me, how can Iran get a penalty for that when Maguire was bear hugged to the floor and it didn't even rate a look from the ref?

    1. Must've been one of the longest games ever, 14 mins of injury time in both halfs (128 minutes)

  4. Holland a bit lucky to beat Senegal thanks to the Chelsea keeper having a nightmare.
Wales v USA a draw, Wales terrible in the 1st Half but Keifer Moore came on and changed the game.
Typical Bale performance - 95% of the game anonymous, then becomes the hero.

    Day 2 Scores (4 Games)
    Lee 5, Gibbo 3, Paul 2, Paulo 2, (Sutton 5)

  5. First big shock, Saudi beating favourites Argentina
After 20 mins it looked like how many can Argentina get? 3 goals disallowed for offside and just the penalty scored (was a penalty, but still wondering why England didn't get one for the same offence?).
Then Saudi realised they had a chance and 2 quick goals in the 2nd half left Argentina needing to do something, which never looked likely.

  6. 2 goalless draws, then France win after going behind
    Day 3 Scores (8 Games)

  7. Morocco v Croatia 0-0 a bit of a non event.
Germany v Japan 1-2 a great game, Germany 1 up and 20+ shots should have been out of sight, then last 20 mins Japanese subs showing up the poor German defence.
Spain v Costa Rica 7-0 Spain passing Costa Rica into submission, Tiki-taka'ing their way to the most one sided game ever.
Belgium v Canada 1-0 The Belgians were awful, Canada's shooting was even worse 21 shots just 3 on target.
Missed a penalty and despite playing really well went to pieces everytime they were near goal.

    Day 4 Scores (12 Games)
    Gibbo 11, Lee 9, Paulo 7, Paul 6, (Sutton 15)

  8. Switzerland v Cameroon 1-0 One goal not much else happened
Uruguay v South Korea 0-0 Uruguay hit post twice that was it.
Portugal v Ghana 3-2 Not much in first 65 mins then goals galore
Brazil v Serbia 2-0 Comfortable for Brazil Serbs defended well

    Day 5 Scores (16 Games)
    Gibbo 14, Lee 12, Paul 9, Paulo 8, (Sutton 18)

First part over, second part posted above.
Early contenders - France, Brazil, England, Spain
